Update on Old Business #9; 9;

NH DES letter on potential threats to drinking water supplies: Phil Trowbridge called DES—nothing urgently needs to be done; however, Allenstown should consider better protection of wellhead protection areas in mobile home parks.

US EPA letter on Catamount Pond closures—Phil Trowbridge called DES. There is nothing Allenstown needs to do.

Land donation—Phil Trowbridge called Tom Christie about Mr. Christie’s possible donation of land off of Ferry Street as part of a campground development proposal. The Conservation Commission is interested in the idea only if the rest of the project is approved by the Town. The Conservation Commission is opposed to development along the river, but is also interested in trails and public access.
NH DES wetlands letter—Phil Trowbridge called DES. No follow-up required.

Review of Mail

June 24^th, Regional Conservation Commission Roundtable organized by Bear-Paw in Raymond. Laura Bonk agreed to attend (however, she can no longer attend and Phil Trowbridge will most likely attend).

June 26^th, Seminar on Growth Planning organized by NH Central Regional Planning Commission in Concord. David McKay will attend.#9; 9;

Letter of Support for LCHIP Funding

Phil Trowbridge will send letter to NH Senators and NH Representatives on behalf of the Conservation Commission to support LCHIP.

Prioritize Natural Resource Objectives in Master Plan

The following are the objectives from the Natural Resources Chapter of the Master Plan to which the Conservation Commission will give priority in 2003.

Nonpoint Source Pollution along Suncook River

Allenstown will support the Friends of The Suncook River with an August Cleanup Day and assessments of possible sources of point and nonpoint source contamination. Laura Bonk will contact the Friends to discuss possible dates. Laura Bonk will handle the publicity for the event.

Public Access to Suncook River and Merrimack River

Laura Bonk will contact Planning Commission to assure that the Conservation Commission is involved with the Route 3 bridge design and public river access.

Assessment of and Educational Programs concerning Town Forests

David McKay will assess the Town Forests and will work with the Boy Scouts or other groups to map the forest and produce informational pamphlets.

Protection and Promotion of Bear Brook State Park

David McKay will review the Bear Brook State Park timber sales.
Phil Trowbridge will continue with the fine filter review committee regarding ATV trails in Bear Brook State Park. He will continue to inform members on the email list serve.
Laura Bonk will finish her survey of illegal ATV use in Bear Brook State Park. She is taking photos and mapping illegal trails.
Phil Trowbridge will investigate signs for Allenstown promoting the town as "Home of Bear Brook State Park."

Environmental Regulatory Programs

Laura Bonk will notify the Planning Board to include the Conservation Commission in any projects involving wetlands, shorelines, wellhead protection areas as well as other sensitive environmental projects.
David McKay will identify regulatory avenues to protect and preserve Allenstown’s natural resources.
