TOWN
OF ALLENSTOWN
SELECTMEN’S
OFFICE
16
SCHOOL STREET
ALLENSTOWN,
NEW HAMPSHIRE 03275
SELECTMEN’S MEETING 1/14/2002
Arthur G. Houle, Chairman of the Board of
Selectmen, opened the meeting at 7:05 PM.
Present were Arthur G. Houle, Benjamin E.
Fontaine, Jr., Sandra A. McKenney, Selectmen; and David M. Jodoin,
Administrative Assistant.
The Selectmen met with James Lesmerises
from Network Plus Telephone System to discuss the benefits of their services
and how it would benefit the Town of Allenstown. Comparing their services with
AT & T and Verizon, the savings for the Town would be $303.84 a month;
$3,646.08 a year. The prices quoted are good until April of 2002.
The Selectmen will take this under
advisement and discuss it later.
The Selectmen discussed the air tank at the
new Fire station. Victor Martin will remove the old tank and put in a new one
for a price of $2,000. On motion of Benjamin E. Fontaine, Jr., seconded by
Sandra A. McKenney, to accept Mr. Martin’s bid, the motion passed unanimously.
There was damage to the roof and skating
rink at the Parks and Rec. Center recently and a report has to be filed to the
Insurance Company before it can be repaired. Sgt. Mulholland will handle this.
Other issues discussed at the meeting
included permits to Mobile Home Parks, a meeting scheduled for Tuesday
regarding ATV’s and using State property for year round use. David will ask the
Chief of Police to attend the meeting. David will also write a letter to H.L. Royce,
Chairman of the State committee to let him know the Selectmen’s concerns
regarding this issue.
The Selectmen discussed the Town Cemetery
and the plot to be selected.
Benjamin E. Fontaine, Jr., does not recall
selecting Gilbert Road as the Town cemetery plot. The Board discussed the issue
and unanimously approved the purchase order to enter into a contract with
Holden engineering.
The building Inspector and the
Administrative Assistant inspected the Lee property at 34 Birchwood Dr. and
found no evidence of any forestry equipment on that property.
The Selectmen discussed where the
Deliberative session and the voting would take place. The Fire station was
mentioned. The Selectmen feel that the location change would confuse people. On
motion of Benjamin E. Fontaine, Jr., seconded by Sandra A. McKenney, the
Deliberative session will be held at the Allenstown Elementary School and the
Town voting will take place at the St. John’s Parish Center. Motion passed
unanimously.
Monday, the 21st of January,
there will be no Selectmen’s meeting, in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
The Selectmen discussed a letter received
from the School Board. The School Board members are upset that the Budget
Committee did not approve the budget. The budget Committee feels that they do
not have enough time to go over a $7,000,000 budget in one week and feel
comfortable voting in such a short period of time.
The Selectmen are looking for a report from
former Fire Chiefs regarding the needs for a new Fire station and downsizing
the trucks.
The Selectmen approved the minutes of
January 7, 2002.
On motion of Benjamin E. Fontaine, Jr.,
seconded by Sandra A. McKenney, the meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.
