TOWN OF ALLENTOWN
SELECTMEN'S OFFICE
16 SCHOOL STREET
ALLENSTOWN, NEW HAMPSHIRE 03275
SELECTMEN'S MEETING 8/23/2004
Arthur G. Houle, Chairman of the Allentown Board of Selectmen, opened the meeting at 5:05 PM. Present at the meeting: Arthur G. Houle, Sandra A. McKenney, Peter A. Viar, Selectmen; David M. Jodoin, Administrative Assistant.
In the audience: David and Pauline Boutin, and Jason Walsh.
The Selectmen met with David and Pauline Boutin of Main Street in Allenstown, regarding traffic increase on Main Street. Their concern is the speed and the noise caused by vehicles, especially trucks. Since the road has been resurfaced, it seems drivers have increased their speed. The west side of Main Street does not have a sidewalk, and it is dangerous for children walking on that side of the street. Senator Jack Barnes directed Mr. and Mrs. Boutin to the Selectmen so that he could get a written response from them, and then he can go to the State and try to limit speed on that Street, as it is a State Road.
The Selectmen met with Jason Walsh, from Lightship, for a phone proposal for the Town offices. Mr. Walsh distributed proposal sheets and asked the Selectmen for comments. The Selectmen asked questions and told Mr. Walsh that they are shopping around for the best phone system. They are willing to enter into a 1 or 2 or 3 year contract and will have the Town Attorney look at this proposal and discuss it at another meeting.
A motion was made by Peter Viar, seconded by Sandra McKenney, to accept the minutes of 8/9/2004 Selectmen's meeting. Motion passed.
A motion was made by Sandra McKenney, seconded by Peter Viar, to amend the minutes to include that Sandra McKenney donated $50 to the Recreation Department for granite that she obtained at the Town Hall. Motion passed.
The Selectmen discussed several issues: The tax deed list, demolishing a deeded mobile home, Modular at school, Landfill proposals, default budget, employees' parking lot, and possible repairs on Sunset Avenue by the Highway Department.
The following meetings will be held:
Pembroke Town Hall 8/31/2004, for the Bridge construction.
Presentation of Highway Department budget, September 1, 5 PM
Presentation of Fire Department budget, September 1, 6 PM.
Presentation of Police Department budget, September 20, tentatively set for 7 PM but will discuss with the Chief to try and move up to 5 PM.
There will be no Selectmen's meetings on 9/6 because of Labor Day and the next regular meeting will be September 20th.
Peter Viar would like to be involved in the building committee and hopefully the meetings can be scheduled in the evenings so he can attend.
The Selectmen received a letter supporting volunteerism and can make a nomination for a recipient to receive a volunteer award from the State. A motion was made by Sandra McKenney, seconded by Peter Viar, to nominate Phil Trowbridge. Motion passed.
Sandra McKenney sent an e-mail to the Fire Chief regarding the Allenstown Fire Department resident student program. She has some issues regarding this and has sent the Fire Chief several questions she would like answered before she decides to approve or disapprove this matter.
Old Home Day is Saturday, August 28th. The parade starts at 10:00 AM.
A motion was made by Peter Viar, seconded by Sandra McKenney, to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 6:35PM.
